As a company that nurtures long-standing client relationships and produces durable packaging machines that last for decades, Optima Packaging Group seeks to take its services a notch higher through digitisation programmes. The third-generation German company is pursuing technological advancements to develop faster, smarter and more efficient machines and systems.

“We are an expert in sophisticated packaging solutions,” says Dr Jürgen Kuske, managing director and CFO. “We constantly develop tailor-made solutions and we work near our clients.”

Designing simple individual machines through to complex turnkey systems, Optima serves top players in the pharmaceutical, consumer, non-wovens and life sciences fields. It makes filling and packaging processes more efficient with the life cycle management service Optima Total Care. The extensive service portfolio continues to develop, providing Optima equipment with safety and efficiency.

Digital technology is an important part of Optima Total Care, and machine operators are trained right after the machine design is completed. The machines can be viewed in 3D detail at the virtual reality centre of Packaging Valley in Germany.

Optima TCAM (Total Care Asset Management) shows the digital-based services trend. Smart sensors continuously monitor the equipment and issue warnings automatically before any damage can occur. In addition, the line management software OPAL (Optima Process Automation Library) allows networking of entire production lines and helps machine users react to fluctuations in overall equipment efficiency.

Optima Pharma’s systems, such as the new digital intelligent production assistant system, offer complete security, support operators and help increase process reliability.

Optima Consumer’s packaging systems process a wide variety of liquid, viscous, powdery and granulated products, from portion packs to large containers. Thanks to the high speed and flexibility of Optima Nonwovens’ machines, safe and well-packaged hygiene products such as diapers, sanitary napkins, bathroom tissue rolls and wet wipes flourish in Asia.

Optima Life Science complements the company’s portfolio with cost-effective solutions for the production and packaging of ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test kits, oral film strips and transdermal patches.

“We have experience in many application fields, and we continue to develop our high-end level machines in Germany while training our colleagues in Asia so that we can give good support in the same language quickly,” Kuske says. “Our service staff and spare parts are available on site so production of our customers stays in flow. Exchange meetings ensure that all Optima experts worldwide have the same level of knowledge. This is how we give customers a competitive edge. We see great opportunities for digital technologies. This applies to process reliability, production data management, service technicians’ support and the virtual planning of packaging systems. The range of possibilities is unlimited.”
